Summer to-do list

okay. so. it's summer. but it doesn't feel like summer except for the heat. oh gosh ...and the humidity! so long to good hair days for a while. hmph. oh well...the past few years i have lost touch with the summer i used to know. the summer where i felt free and had no curfew. i giggled...alot and didn't seem to mind the mosquitos.
with the job i have, we are at our busiest time of year. the stress level runs high. i want to do nothing more than come home to the couch and comfort myself (and the never-ending headache) with unhealthy foods and doing absolutely nothing until bedtime. i live for my weekends, might i add. all 3 days. i don't like to share them too much either. they're mine. all mine.

i need to get out of this rut. i always tell myself when spring rolls around that i'm gonna make the best of this summer...but honestly, i hardly ever do.
so with that said, here's my to-do list, for THIS summer:
  • master my camera
  • slip 'n' slide with my nephew at least once
  • relax
  • squirt my hubby with the water hose
  • buy fresh and local veggies
  • take a picnic
  • bike around town
  • buy bicycles first
  • go camping
  • catch lightening bugs
  • lay under the stars
  • make homemade ice cream and eat it on the porch on a sunday afternoon
  • turn off the tv and finish at least one book
  • pick wildflowers
  • take an evening drive with the windows down
  • listen to tree frogs and crickets sing to me
  • be happy and enjoy every minute of my life

Growing up

this fine young man is my nephew and he just celebrated his TENTH birthday! 10 years. why does time pass so fast? i barely remember being 10 myself, but i always wanted to be older. now nearing the big 3-0 i really wish i could go back in time and enjoy all of lifes frills and be a youngster again! oh how i miss those days!

10 days

10 days of pure selfishness. i get to do what i want when i want. i can drink coffee past 6 o'clock in the evening. i can go see a movie on a tuesday night. i get to watch my morning shows. why? because it's VACATION! and right now, at 10 o'clock at night i just started watching Nine because i don't have to get up in the morning. :) here are some pics that i'd like to share of happiness. enjoy!

Upcoming vacay!

so the hubs and i have an entire week off together starting this friday. what will we get ourselves into? well we had planned on taking a beach trip with his side of the family, but that fell through. so now we have the whole week to play around just the two of us! to kick things off friday we are planning on going to freedom weekend aloft in Greenville, SC to see Corey Smith in concert. EXCITING! sunday we're taking a picnic to the mountains with my family. tuesday we're hoping to head to charleston for a night or two. at some point in the week i want to venture up to Grandfather Mountain and do some hiking. i haven't been there since i was a child. lots of good things to look forward to and relaxation to indulge in. i want to have a day of cooking and baking too. very rarely do i get to make complicated dishes and i have lots to try! and hopefully i'll get to catch up on blog reading!

This crazy, busy, stressful life

and summer is here....although i have a love/hate relationship with this season. work is crazy busy this time of year which has an effect on almost every aspect of my life. it stresses me out, makes me ill and our hours are longer. oh i hope to survive another summer here at work. in the meantime, i'll just look at this picture when i need a mental get-away.

Kick-off to summer

this past weekend felt like summer...hot and muggy! so we celebrated with a baseball game and ventured out to strawberry hill for some ripe, juicy strawberries! we had my nephew which made it even more fun. i'm gonna turn some of those berries into ice cream. YUM!
